Question:
What hair loss medications, if any, are effective and is there any benefit to using them along with a hair transplant?
Answer:
Yes, there are several medications and they primarily are Propecia which is only for men and Rogaine for men and women. Used postoperatively, Rogaine can help speed up the regrowth of transplanted hairs, perhaps shortening the time interval between planting and regrowth by some four to five months down to three to four months. Propecia is a more effective medication overall for it effectively slows down or stops the progression of hair loss in the crown region and to some degree in the frontal half. It is best used to help maintain the existing hairs post transplant.
