Question:
We saved and stored my son’s growth factors after birth. I know there are a lot of possibilities in using them to treat certain cancer and other diseases. In the future is there any possibility that it could be used to treat hair loss?
Answer:
Yes. It is possible that in the future growth factors will be used in the field of hair restoration. Currently, there is no proven treatments using them in the hair restoration procedure. However, growth factors collected at birth are somewhat limited and most likely a patient would not be in the position to need growth factors for hair loss until they were an adult or sometime later in life and it would be questionable if there were enough growth factors retrieved during the birth from the umbilical cord .It may be necessary to do an additional growth factor retrieval either from adipose tissue and/or a blood draw.
