Question:
I am planning a hairline transplant for correcting and thickening my hairline and temples with Dr Epstein. I would like to know after the procedure has been completed as a female do I need use any propecia /rogaine or any other medications? As I read your testimonials I see that a lot of your patients are using these medications after the procedure or are these just for the male patients?

First of all, I look forward to having you as a patient. I have a particularly large practice treating women, and enjoy utilizing my skill and knowledge in this area to creating the very best results for my patients.
The hairs that are transplanted are permanent- although if there is some thinning that occurs down the road in the area of the donor area, then these transplanted hairs will similarly thin out. The original hairs however will continue most likely to experience progressive thinning, so by using minoxidil it may prevent or slow down this process. Therefore, I do recommend minoxidil as a post-procedure maintenance to see if it works. In addition, most of my transplant patients- male and female- use minoxidil for the first 4 months after a procedure to help accelerate the regrowth of transplanted hairs.
