Question:
Should I use Propecia?
Answer:
Dr. Epstein and the Foundation doctors do advocate the use of Propecia. It is particularly useful in slowing down the progression of hair loss. While some patients do experience a thickening or slight re-growth of their hair, most patients need to be aware of and realize that the major focus of Propecia is slowing down the progression of hair loss and, to a lesser extent, helping to re-grow small amounts of hair in most patients. Like Rogaine, it works better in the back half of the head from what we have seen than in the front half of the head, although many patients do experience the slow down or stoppage of hair loss in the front and, in rare instances, re-growth or thickening of the hairs in the front as well. Because it is a pill one should, before selecting it, consult with their physician to ensure it is the appropriate medication for them to take but it can work effectively in the prevention of further hair loss.
