Question:
Should I use Growth Factors Plasma?
Answer:
Growth factors plasma is one of the latest technologies in the treatment of hair loss in men and women. It essentially consists of drawing blood from one’s arm, spinning it in a centrifuge to spin out all the platelets and healing parts of the blood, concentrating them several hundred times what they are normally found in the blood and then injecting it into any areas during surgery, be it for hair transplantation. The goal is to help heal the skin more quickly, to help hair to re-grow a little bit quicker and also it has been shown in some cases to slow down the progression of hair loss and in even more rare cases has been shown to help re-grow or thicken hair.
As of this time, we do not see any side effects to the procedure. It can be performed as a stand-alone treatment or it can be performed in conjunction with a hair transplantation. The only reason that a patient might not choose to have growth factors along with their procedure or stand-alone treatment is if they are uncomfortable having their blood drawn. Besides this, it should not and to our knowledge cannot hurt and it very likely will help in the treatment of hair loss as well as the general healing of a patient after any surgical procedure for hair transplantation.
