Question:
I have head that hair transplantation can sometimes result in a large red scar. Is this not a concern with the FUE technique?
Answer:
Rarely does a hair transplant end up with a large red scar even if a long strip of hair is removed in a standard fashion from the back of the head toward the ears. Most of the time the scar heals and is almost impossible to see. If someone does have a problem with hypertrophic scarring or likes to wear their hair really short, they are sometimes advised to use the follicular unit extraction technique, or FUE technique. With the follicular unit extraction technique, small little punch grafts are used to remove the hair from the scalp to be placed in the recipient site. One of the major differences is that the scalp in the area where the follicular unit extraction technique is being performed must be shaved very short. However, after growing back in, you cannot see where any of these extraction units were taken.
