Question:
How long should I wait between hair transplantation procedures?
Answer:
First and foremost, I would rely on your doctor’s recommendation as far as how long to wait. In general, for hair transplants to reach their final result varies slightly from patient to patient. However, in general, most patients see very little to no regrowth for the first three to four months. Once they see some regrowth after three to four months, it improves steadily through month six to as late as month eight and some patients experience even more growth all the way through month 10, month 12 or even month 14. Because of this, Dr. Epstein and the Foundation doctors encourage patients to wait at least six to eight months between procedures, unless the hairs are being transplanted to a new area. For example, if a patient has a procedure on the front of their scalp, it is reasonable to move forward a little quicker if they are coming back to have more hair transplants placed in the back of their scalp. If they are simply returning for more coverage in a specific area to create more density or thickness, then we do encourage them to wait at least six to eight months and, in some cases, as much as 10 to 12 to 14 months before they are ready for the next procedure.
