Question:
How effective is laser light therapy in treating hairloss?
Answer:
In early 2007, the FDA approved low level laser light therapy (LLLLT) for the treatment of hair loss. Unfortunately, this therapy has little documented evidence of really helping to regrow or even maintain hair, and the research was definitely profit-driven. That being said, I always encourage my patients to try any and all supposed hair loss therapies-provided they are safe- including vitamins, certain shampoos, and even the laser. To help offset the cost factor, as a courtesy to my patients, my office sells the laser comb at our cost. This is because I refuse to make money from my patients from a device which has little if any proven benefit.
