Question:
Can hair grafts be transplanted to the lower eyelids?
Answer:
Dr. Epstein prefers not to transplant hairs and follicles to the lower eyelids simply because there is a greater chance of complication. For example, there is a much greater chance that the hairs will not grow in the correct direction. It can also be easier for there to be ingrown hairs as a result just due to the delicate nature of the tissue in that area. However, Dr. Epstein can transplant hairs to the upper eyelids as long as the patient is aware that they will need to trim those hairs with some frequency, typically two to three times per month, and also curl them on a regular basis so that they appear the most natural.
